What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment aimed at allowing the body to move freely and without pain.

By using gentle techniques such as massage to relieve tight muscles and mobilization and manipulation techniques to free restricted joints, the ostepath uses their hands to bring the body back into balance and alignment.

The aim of the osteopath is firstly the relief of the pain and then to prevent reoccurence of the problem by treaing the underlying cause.

Conditions treated include:

  ~Acute and chronic conditions

  ~Back and neck pain

  ~Joint pains

  ~Muscle spasm and tension

  ~Headaches

~Trapped or irritated nerve pain eg sciatica

  ~Whiplash

  ~Aches and pains during pregnancy

  ~Arthritic pain

What to expect from your first consultation

The first visit invloves an investigation into your problem. A case history is taken in order to understand your problem including your general health and medical history. The Osteopath will then examine the area of pain, the soft tissues, spine and joints involved, then carry out further tests before forming a diagnosis.

What does treatment involve and does it hurt?

The treatment is tailored to suit the patient and the condition - it is gentle (not forceful), usually relaxing and does not hurt.

Oestopathy for all ages

Osteopathy is a gentle, effective and safe treatment for all ages from babies to the elderly. Babies are treated using very gentle cranial techniques which can help problems such as colic and ear problems.
