GIVE YOURSELF A BIG CLAP!
“I was thrilled that my company - Henry House – won the Green Business of the Year Award at the recent Worthing Business Awards - but does it have real value?”It was certainly a great opportunity to dress up and hob-nob with about 300 local dignitaries, movers and shakers at the glittering event at the Pier Pavilion. The atmosphere was electric and really fostered that sense of healthy rivalry between competitors that is so essential for a vibrant business community.
It’s been a tough couple of years and we’ve seen quite a few local companies go to the wall – we’ve all had to work hard at managing cash-flow, rationalising, diversifying and whatever else it takes to survive (or even grow) in a recession, so it was great to celebrate success and look forward. Personally I found it a real eye-opener - Worthing and Adur are home to several world class businesses as well as both solid and innovative local ones.
At the Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce I think we were a little apprehensive about whether, given the recession, local businesses would get behind the high profile events that we planned. No need to worry - the recent Business - to Business event at the Charmandean centre with Secret Millionaire Gillian Fielding was very buzzy (and my ears are still buzzing from the speed-networking!) and the Awards was very well supported - this was only the third one so it can only get bigger and better as more and more local companies get behind it.
So did it have value for my business? “ My staff and I have worked hard for this (especially with those bananas) and really appreciate the recognition - we’ve had a lot of calls and emails as a result of the publicity. So we're giving ourselves a big clap”
